Assignment Task
Purpose
This assignment is designed to enable students to make the links between the broader determinants of health and the health needs of a chosen community (Samoan Community). The student will critically discuss the relationship between poverty and poor health and develop a beginning understanding of the complex interrelationship between poverty and poor health including Pacific social service agencies involved in improving health outcomes and the importance of Pacific leadership.

Task
1. Discuss the principles of community assessment, health promotion and health literacy in relation to Nursing that enables better health outcomes for Pacific Peoples and other communities.
2. Identify and describe two community-based Pacific Health and Social Service agencies. For both these agencies:
a. Explain the importance of community assessment, health promotion and health literacy in both agencies’ strategies.
b. Reflect on how effective the agencies’ health strategies are in supporting better health outcomes for Pacific people.
c. Describe Pacific Leadership in relation to health. Provide two examples of Pacific Leadership within the agencies.
