Instructions Part one of the final paper should define a problem or issue within the child welfare legal and social work area in which you have a particular interest, keeping in mind that part two of the final will require you to develop an intervention to address the problem. The paper should inform your own problem theory, grounded in research to guide part II. The paper can be related to one of the course topics (e.g., residential care, kinship care, aging out, human trafficking, etc.) or it can be on an issue outside of these areas, but it must be related to child welfare, system-involved children and families, and policy. Be sure to specify a clear problem that is narrow enough to address in a policy solution brief. Part 1 of the paper should include the following: A thorough description of the problem/issue, its significance to social work, and the child welfare system. This section of the paper should inform your problem theory. It should answer the following questions: Why is this problem important? How does the problem relate to child welfare? What current or past policies/practices (interventions) have attempted to address this problem? How have child welfare and social work professionals tended to view the problem? What are the logics behind these interventions? Note: # 1 and #2 (above) require a thorough literature review. Please draw on a minimum of 5 class sources and 5 outside sources or 10 sources minimum. An outline of your proposed intervention idea for Part II (outline is not included in page requirements). If using a podcast for part II please outline the plan for episodes, target audience, and guest speakers).
