This week you read and discussed grand, midrange, and practice theories. Review Jean Watson’s theory of human caring (p. 51 in Conceptual Foundations), as it is the foundation of the nursing curricula in the College of Nursing. One purpose of nursing theory is to guide nursing actions that result in improved patient outcomes. Conduct library research for 2 current scholarly articles that apply Jean Watson’s theory of human caring to professional nursing practice. Create a 12- to 15-slide PowerPoint® presentation in which you address the following: Explain how Watson’s theory of human caring was applied to professional nursing practice in the 2 articles you located. Define the terms phenomenon, concept, proposition, and assumption in your own words. Describe a situation you have experienced in your own practice using the terms phenomenon, concept, proposition, and assumption. Explain how specific theory key concepts guide specific nursing actions (e.g., decision-making, clinical judgment, critical thinking). Support your writing with current evidence. Write a reflection on how applying specific caritas processes from Watson’s theory of human caring could have improved or did improve the outcomes of the situation you described. What would you do differently in a future situation? What would you recommend to a nurse dealing with a situation like the one described? Would a different theory be more appropriate? Include an introduction, conclusion, APA-formatted references slide, and detailed speaker notes in your presentation. Support your work by citing at least 2 current scholarly sources from the University of Phoenix Library, in addition to any textbook citations, using current APA guidelines.
