As you have seen this week there are numerous ways in which children and adolescents may be vulnerable in the interviewing process. For example, children have less advanced executive functioning, they have less reliable memories, reduced comprehension, and smaller vocabularies, and they are significantly more trusting, suggestable, and gullible than a typical adult. For this reason, tactics like suggestive interviewing and repeat questioning can be especially effective—and problematic—with this population. As a forensic psychology professional, it is your responsibility to become aware of these vulnerabilities and employ strategies to minimize the likelihood that young interviewees will experience duress and/or provide inaccurate testimony. Review the Learning Resources for this Assignment. Select four factors that may contribute to problematic outcomes for children and adolescents in the interviewing process from the following list on which to focus for this Assignment: Neurological factors Biological factors Psychological factors Learning disabilities Temperament Language deficits Secure/Insecure attachment patterns Physical (or other factors associated with a physical disability) Based on the four factors you selected, search the Walden library databases to find and select at least one recent (within the past 5 years), peer reviewed article about each of them. Note: The four articles you select must be different than those provided in the Learning Resources. Use the APA Course Paper Template (APA 7) found in this week’s Learning Resources to complete your Assignment. Assignment (2-3 pages, not including title and reference pages)

Synthesize your learning this week and based on what you now know about the factors that make children and adolescents vulnerable, address the following:

How might these factors present challenges when interviewing children and adolescents? Why is interviewing children especially challenging? What are the problematic approaches to avoid when interviewing children? Use this week’s Learning Resources, as well as the peer-reviewed articles you identified to support your Assignment. Use proper APA format and style for all references and citations.
