Policing with dignity is critical in building police–community relations. Historically, not all police officers have stood on the right side of justice (i.e., police officers standing alongside Nazis during the Holocaust). Collateral damage is caused in many communities by aggressive policing tactics. While most officers do a great job, there are some that engage in unethical practices that harm a community’s perception of police officers in general. As you address at least two of the four key points provided, go beyond your opinion and analyze findings from at least three peer-reviewed journal articles that address the importance of mending the relationships between police departments and the communities they serve.
