In the second BEM1083DA assessment, apprentices take the role of a Project Manager and record a presentation for potential new recruits on the knowledge, skills and behaviours of an effective project manager, backed by real examples from their own organisation.
Assessment Objective
As a Project Manager within your organisation, develop and deliver a presentation to potential new recruits on the knowledge, skills and behaviours of an effective Project Manager and how the role enables them to make a positive, strategic impact in your organisation and beyond. Support your points with real-life examples from project(s) in your own area.
Three Parts of the Presentation
- Knowledge: how projects contribute to businesses operating in local, regional, national and global economies, with reference to the main UK business sectors and their parameters; and how projects enable your organisation to achieve short, medium and long-term strategies.
- Skills: how to analyse the context, opportunities and challenges (including operating constraints) presented by projects.
- Behaviours: how to promote organisational or project vision, purpose and values; how to collaborate to build rapport and trust, develop networks and maintain relationships; and an understanding of the bigger picture with a solution-focused mindset.
Guidance, Structure and Style
- Address the ILOs assessed; ground the presentation in theory and practice with examples from your own area.
- Substantiate points with evidence and references; synthesise and critique theories rather than describe them.
- Professional, visually appealing slides with bullet points; details go in the speaker notes. Narrated voiceover in your own voice; first person is acceptable when describing your own experience.
- In-text citations on slides or notes pages and a full APA reference list at the end of the deck.
- Upload a PowerPoint file (not a PDF) so notes and animations can be accessed.
- AI-Assisted: GenAI may support ideas, research and proofreading within the university’s rules, but AI-generated content must not be presented as your own.
