Treatment of Client’s Gout Exacerbation?

            The client experiences recurrent gout flares. During the clinical visit, the client reported his fifth gout flare, which is characterized by various symptoms, including a warm, red, and swollen right foot’s big toe. The client’s gout exacerbation can be treated using corticosteroids, which can be administered to the affected figure as an injection. Alternatively, the medication can be given orally such as prednisone.

Measures for Preventing Future Occurrences

            Gout flares are preventable through medication and non-pharmacological interventions. Non-pharmacological preventive measure for gout involves making dietary modifications. To prevent future occurrences of gout in this client, he should minimize the intake of high-fructose corn syrup, sweetened soft drinks, fructose-rich fruits and vegetables, and fruit juice. The client should also minimize the consumption of seafood and meat. Additionally, the client should increase the intake of dairy products to reduce the frequency of the gouty symptoms. On the other hand, medication interventions for preventing gout recurrent include allopurinol (Zyloprim) and Febuxostat (Uloric) (Rezapour et al., 2021).             The patient requires education regarding lifestyle modifications needed to prevent incidents of gout flares in the future. First, the client should be educated about recommendable dietary changes. He should reduce the intake of high-fructose corn syrup, sweetened soft drinks, fructose-rich fruits and vegetables, and fruit juice since they increase the risk of gout flares. Furthermore, Javier should be educated on the benefit of increasing the intake of dairy products. Proposed Treatment Plan and Applied Clinical Guidelines

            The American College of Physicians (ACP) developed evidence-based clinical guidelines for the management and treatment of gout (Qaseem et al., 2017). The ACP clinical guideline was utilized in developing this treatment plan. The client’s treatment plan is inclusive of pharmacological therapies. The client was given hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily to control his blood pressure. The client was prescribed nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that are effective in reducing pain in persons diagnosed with acute gout (Qaseem et al., 2017). On the other hand, the client’s treatment plan was inclusive of non-pharmacological interventions, including dietary modifications and lifestyle changes such as increasing exercise and weight loss.
