For this task, you will take on the role of an organizational leader. After choosing which scenario you would like to role-play, you must communicate with your team (followers). To achieve this, you will prepare and deliver a speech, in which you will record in Canvas Studio. When crafting your speech, consider the nature and dynamics of the situation (i.e. the role play scenario) and choose from one or multiple types of leadership styles and influential tactics that will help you meet your objective (i.e course concepts covered in the Northouse text and the Kouzes and Posner text). As you prepare your speech, consider your words carefully. Remember you are taking on the role of a leader and your team is looking to you for guidance and leadership. Therefore, consider the leadership principles learned throughout the course and apply them to achieve your objective. Also, before recording your presentation, consider your professional appearance, stature, demeanor or attitude, and personality. Each of these factors play an important role in your presentation and delivery. Presentation Details: Choose one role play scenario Canvas Recording must be a minimum of 5 minutes in length Apply two or more leadership concepts from the Northouse text Apply one or more leadership concepts from the Kouzes and Posner text Do not use Powerpoint or Google slides Feel free to use creativity when crafting your speech. Role Play Scenario A: New CEO As Vice President of ABC Industries (FYI: you can choose the product or service) you just celebrated your 5th year with the company. To your surprise, the long-serving CEO announced to you that he will be stepping down next month and he wants you to be the next CEO. He explains that the company is still a thriving business, but it needs new leadership to help encourage and motivate the leadership team and the employees toward new and innovative ideas. He finds that you have the intelligence, energy, and personality required for the job. With excitement, you gladly accept the new position as CEO. But you recognize that many of the staff and employees will find it disappointing that the much beloved and long-serving CEO is leaving. Some members may even have concerns about the future of the company. Therefore, you recognize that you must deliver a speech to the organization that ensures staff, employees, and other stakeholders that the company will be in good hands. Your aim is to give your audience a sense of professionalism, calm, and inspiration. Role Play Scenario B: Time Crunch As Manager of Operations, you have just learned during the board meeting that the CEO has landed a new client. However, the client’s manufacturing needs will require new machinery, update to new processes and procedures, and retooling. The changes required in the organization will require time for implementation as well as training. Some of the department managers have already expressed that several of the employees are frustrated that they will have to train on new equipment and learn new processes. You recognize that pushback and resistance is a common symptom when trying to implement organizational change. As Manager of Operations, the CEO has appointed you as Project Manager overseeing organizational change efforts. Your first objective is to notify all employees of the change coming to the organization, but you also realize that your announcement must calm nerves, frustration, and most importantly secure buy-in from all members of the organization to help make the transition go smoothly and successfully.
