Leadership behaviors refer to those actions and behaviors that leaders display in order to motivate their subordinates to act on their behalf. Diffusion of innovations is a process in which new ideas are introduced into an organization (Broome & Marshall, 2020). To promote the diffusion of innovations, leaders must exhibit the following behaviors:

Encourage Risk-taking

Leaders should not only be supportive of new ideas but also encourage their subordinates to take risks in order to adopt new ideas. This allows for the exploration of new possibilities and the potential for innovation. Leadership Theories in Practice Discussion Essay

Be Visible in the Adoption and Support of New Innovations

Leaders should be open to new ideas and demonstrate their commitment to the diffusion of innovations by adopting them and supporting their implementation.

Create an Environment that is Conducive to Innovation

Leaders must create a supportive environment in which employees are able to share their ideas and innovations (Miles & Scott, 2019). This environment should be conducive to creativity and innovation.

Provide Training and Education on how to Implement New Innovations

Leaders must provide their employees with the necessary training and education on how to implement new innovations. This will help employees to be successful in their adoption and implementation of new ideas.

Encourage Open Communication among Employees

Leaders must encourage open communication among their employees in order to allow for the sharing of ideas and innovations (Broome & Marshall, 2020). This allows for the communication of information and feedback that can help to improve the implementation of new ideas.

From the above behaviors that a leader must exhibit, I gained two main insights. First, leaders should be supportive of new ideas and encourage their subordinates to take risks in order to adopt new ideas (Bianchi et al., 2018). Second, leaders must create an environment that is conducive to innovation and provide training and education on how to implement new innovations. One leader that I have seen use these behaviors and skills in practice is Bill Gates. Throughout his career, Gates has been supportive of new ideas and has encouraged his subordinates to take risks in order to adopt new ideas. One example of this is Gates’ leadership role in the development of Microsoft Windows. By encouraging risk-taking and innovation, Gates has helped to make Microsoft one of the world’s leading technology companies (Raffo & Williams, 2018). Bill Gates has also created a conducive environment for innovation by providing training and education on how to implement new innovations. For example, Gates has spoken at length about the importance of innovation at TEDx conferences Raffo & Williams, 2018). Taking risks to adopt new ideas and creating a conducive environment has been effective in both the short and long term (Bianchi et al., 2018). By encouraging risk-taking, Gates has helped to make Microsoft one of the world’s leading technology companies. In addition, his speeches and writings on innovation have been widely adopted by other leaders in the industry. This has helped to create a culture of innovation within Microsoft. Furthermore, Gates’ effective practices have had an impact on the workplace (Raffo & Williams, 2018). For example, by providing training and education on how to implement new innovations, Gates has helped employees to be successful in their adoption of new ideas. A walk through the Business section of any bookstore or a quick Internet search on the topic will reveal a seemingly endless supply of writings on leadership. Formal research literature is also teeming with volumes on the subject.
However, your own observation and experiences may suggest these theories are not always so easily found in practice. Not that the potential isn’t there; current evidence suggests that leadership factors such as emotional intelligence and transformational leadership behaviors, for example, can be highly effective for leading nurses and organizations.
Yet, how well are these theories put to practice? In this Discussion, you will examine formal leadership theories. • Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Module’s readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.
• Reflect on the leadership behaviors presented in the three resources that you selected for review.

Post two key insights you had from the scholarly resources you selected. Describe a leader whom you have seen use such behaviors and skills, or a situation where you have seen these behaviors and skills used in practice. Be specific and provide examples.
