MRS7002 Learning Outcomes Assessed:
LO2: Synthesise and critically analyse the development of key theories and practices relating to the subject specialism
LO3: Critically appraise how one or more environmental factors impact contemporary practices within the subject specialism
MRS7002 Assessment Task:
In this assessment, students will be required to complete a two-part report that critically analyses the prevalence of fake news in social media outlets and the impact this can have on human behaviours. Students will be required to address the following question,
“Evaluate the prevalence of fake news within the media and any impacts as a result”.
Students are required to:
Part A (addresses LO2):
Analyse relevant psychological theories and concepts to explain the prevalence of fake news within media outlets.
- This can be through social media or mainstream news outlets. and how these address the question
Illustrate the usefulness and limitations of the selected theories in explaining the fake news within media outlets.
- Consider and evaluate psychological theory and literature to ascertain if it can explain this phenomenon. In addition, consider where psychological theory and literature may not explain fake news within media outlets.
Part B (addresses LO3):
- Part B will address how individual and environmental factors may impact the human response to news presented by media outlets.
- Identify and explain key factors that may influence an individual’s behaviour online. This may be towards their perception of truthfulness in the news, or in sharing news. Please ensure you consider cognitive, behavioural, social, and environmental influences that may impact individual behaviours.
