Assignment 3 Collaborative Project is a group project. To complete this assignment, students must join one of four (4) groups (no more than three (3) students per group). Collaborative Groups will plan a 3-day conference on collaboration and special education. The project will be presented via PowerPoint format. Plans for the workshop should include: Budget: Consider all incoming money (e.g., registration fees, lunches etc.) and all outgoing money (e.g., lunches, speaker fees and transportation, building rental fee, etc.). A conference should not cost the sponsoring agency money. Most conferences, in fact, are designed to make money for the organization! Only speakers with national and international reputations are paid to speak at conferences; the rest of the speakers are building their vitae. Call for Papers: Design a call for papers that will be mailed to potential presenters. Typically, Calls for Papers have some information on the conference, the location, and a specific format in which responders must propose their presentations. Calls for Papers also usually inform potential presenters when and how proposals will be selected. Additionally, proposers are usually notified by postcard that their proposal has been received. Include whatever else you think is necessary. Keynote Address: Identify an individual who is known for his/her work on collaboration as your keynote speaker. Outline five (5) main points and no fewer than three (3) sub-points that this particular speaker would likely include in the Keynote Address. Also, design a pamphlet to be distributed with the call for papers and registration that will promote the keynote speaker. Describe three other ways in which you will promote the Keynote Address. Remember, the keynote speaker kicks-off your conference. This is the big drawing card so pick someone who is outstanding and promote that person accordingly. Conference Program: Design a Conference Program Cover that reflects the theme of collaborative consultation. Design the Conference Program. Write an introduction to the program that describes the purpose of the conference, intended audience etc. Make it sound exciting! People who attend conferences go to stay current and to learn new ideas but a conference is a break from their usual routine so they also go to have fun. Include a page that has time, location etc. of such special events as luncheons, dinners, awards ceremonies, fun activities. Include a page that lists exhibitors, where exhibits are located and times that the exhibit hall is open etc. Be creative!!! In addition to the Keynote speaker, your conference should be designed to have three (3) topical strands related to collaboration and special education; each strand should have 3 or 4 sessions. Write a description of each session for the Conference Program. Include topic, speaker(s), time, location etc. Plan so that sessions do not conflict with other sessions that participants are likely to attend. That is, anticipate that if a participant attends a session on… then that participant is also likely to want to attend a session on… and plan these sessions so that they do not conflict. Evaluations: Design two (2) evaluations that conference participants can use to evaluate: (1) the conference and (2) individual conference sessions. Include a Likert Scale for specific aspects of the conference or the sessions and include a space for comments. The two evaluations may be alike in form but must be significantly different in content.
