Watson Theory of Human Caring Essay Assignment
As my biography stated at the beginning of this course, I am raising one of my granddaughters. She has PVL: hypoxic brain damage which typically occurs in utero or during the birthing process if the cord is compressed. She is also Autistic. She is preverbal, which means she has a few words and signs but not enough for effective communication. This writer is interested in the phenomenon of how to educate students and nurses to connect with nonverbal or preverbal patients through effective communication skills. We have experienced issues during medical appointments and or ER visits. Both learning a new communication approach and a new medical procedure necessitate the development of a wide range of skills. Just as surgeons must be prepared to take a different method when confronted with a difficult anatomic circumstance, clinicians must be able to deal with routinely unpleasant encounters. Improved communication in the healthcare industry frequently attempts to prepare providers for these triggers by first recognizing typical symptoms and providing providers with the capacity to respond in a way that reflects their understanding. To better demonstrate empathy at the bedside, we must first learn to understand when a patient’s verbal or nonverbal communication requires an empathic reaction rather than merely facts, and we must then be prepared with the appropriate types of replies. According to research, even these prepared remarks demonstrate concern for our patients (Schnaith et al., 2021). Watson Theory of Human Caring Essay Assignment

Between 1975 and 1979, Jean Watson developed the transpersonal caring theory. Social, clinical, educational, and nursing psychology were all included in this theory. Transpersonal caring interactions, carative factors, and caring occasions/moments are the main ideas of the theory. Transpersonal self-consciousness entails connections to people and the wider world that go beyond one’s own state of being. A transpersonal relationship, according to Watson, is one in which the giver and receiver are intersubjectively linked. It takes loving (healing) consciousness, self-care, intentionality, sensing the other person’s state, presence, and openness to have a transpersonal relationship. Before the caring moment, nurses assess their own and others’ levels of care (Gunawan et al., 2022).
Carative factors underwent revisions in 1985 and 1988. Carative is the polar opposite of curative. Caritas, . “Caritas processes include embrace (loving-kindness), inspire (faith-hope), nurture (relationship), trust (transpersonal), forgive (all), balance (learning), minister (humanity), deepen (creative self), co-create (caritas field), and open (infinity)” (Gunawan et al., 2022, para 8). which means to love, appreciate, and show particular care, was Watson’s replacement for carative. Nursing caregiving abilities are compiled into the caritas process (Gunawan et al., 2022). Watson Theory of Human Caring Essay Assignment
Transpersonal caring reflection and a nurse’s caritas abilities are now kindnesses. Also assessed are transpersonal caring skill and care recipient reflection. If the two aren’t open to each other’s spirits, the transpersonal partnership won’t work (Gunawan et al., 2022).
Three of the nursing meta paradigms were applied by Jean Watson. She views a person as an integrated self rather than as the sum of their parts. According to Watson, health is a state of balance and harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. She claimed that nursing is both a science and an art. However, she refrained from delving into detail about the environment’s metaparadigm. Watson included her expertise as a teacher into the development of her theory in addition to her concerns for the welfare of patients and caregivers. She helped to establish the nursing curriculum as a teacher (Evangelista et al., 2020).
Given the holistic nature of the caring model exemplified by the nursing meta paradigms, this author believes Watson’s transpersonal caring theory applies to the phenomenon of interest quite well. The person is regarded as a valuable human being who deserves to be taken care of, respected, fostered, comprehended, and helped in every way that is practical. a viewpoint that is truly holistic and acknowledges that an individual is greater than the sum of their parts.
