Part B

Week 6: Physiological Arousal Interventions and Strategies for Decreasing Stressful Behaviors

This week we will be covering chapters 13 and 14

Chapter 13

1) How would you describe your balance between your mind-body-spirit wellness?  Do you find that you put in more focus on your mind vs. your body?  Or is it the other way around?  Do you believe that you are getting enough sleep?  Do you believe you are getting enough exercise?  What you think about your nutrition?  Do you notice the effects these things have on your stress levels?

2) Complete the lab assessment, “Can you differentiate between exercise myths and facts?”  What was that activity like for you?

Chapter 14

1) Have you ever tried stopping a behavior “cold turkey” or stopping a behavior all at once?  Describe what you tried to stop doing and how it turned out in the long run.

2) Complete the lab assessment, “Are you lifestyle behaviors healthy?” Reflect on what that activity was like for you.

Example of lab assessment

Completing the “Are your lifestyle behaviors healthy?” assessment

provided a crucial, honest snapshot of daily habits, highlighting a balance between positive routines (e.g., time management, positive social interaction) and areas needing improvement. It was an eye-opening, introspective experience, revealing that while certain wellness areas are managed well, others, such as creative pursuits or volunteering, are neglected.

Reflection on the Assessment Experience:

  • Strengths: The assessment showed positive habits like managing stress, limiting unnecessary conflict, and maintaining social connections.
  • Areas for Growth: It highlighted “0” scores in areas like volunteering or playing a musical instrument, indicating potential for improved mental, creative, and community-oriented health.
  • Impact: The activity served as a catalyst for recognizing that better health requires not just physical movement or diet, but personal growth and fulfillment through varied activities.
  • Action Plan: This reflection encourages changing habits to foster a more well-rounded, less stressful lifestyle.

Part C 1 page
