What is problematic about the relationship between the stuff we consume and how its associated resources are extracted

1. What is problematic about the relationship between the stuff we consume and how its associated resources are extracted? How are the true costs associated with the production of stuff externalized? Who ultimately bears the burden of extraction and production processes and what, if anything, can be done to improve this situation?

2. From a societal and environmental standpoint, what is problematic about the causes and consequences of consumerism? Can we calculate the cost of destroying the environment and thus internalize the costs of all consumer related economic activity? Or alternatively, do we need something closer to an ecological revolution to address the environmental situation
associated with overconsumption?

3. Is the promethean outlook a defensible set of principles grounded on a sound theoretical basis? Should we be skeptical that capitalism can be modified and that it will provide technological solutions for environmental sustainability? With your response in mind, does ones fundamental religious/spiritual beliefs matter for ones relationship to the environment
or is this relationship more complicated?

4. Are there ethical problems with an anthropocentric worldview? Or is the only logical foundation for preserving the environment one that is anthropocentric? How does the concept of the Anthropocene relate to the utility of taking an anthropocentric versus a biocentric/deep ecology approach to addressing our current environmental situation?
