You are required to write a 2500-word report about sustainable construction and its impact on social, economic and environmental factors.

Overview of task:

You are required to select a low impact building as a case study in relation to sustainable construction and its impact on social, economic, and environmental factors. You are required to write a 2500-words report in relation to your case study selection. Low impact case study refers to a selection of a high standard building that includes institutional, commercial and office buildings (NOT a residential project such a housing project/development). This case study must also be a new building (not a refurbished building). If you are unsure of whether your choice of building meets the assessment requirements, you need to check with your lecturer in class. Examples of low carbon building are:

Dalston Lane: The World`s Largest Timber Building completed in 2025.

Examples of inappropriate case studies included: 

–          Rayne Park, Norwich is the largest low-energy Passivhaus development in the UK – and one of the largest in Europe (because it is residential).

Report Structure

The report should include:

1-    Introduction (200 words):

 

  • Encourage the reader`s attention by explaining the impact of sustainable construction solutions on socioeconomic and environmental factors. In other words, why is this topic important.
  • Identify the report`s purpose and briefly identify the selected low impact case study.
  • Highlight the report structure.

 

2-    Main body.

 

1- Provide an overview of the project considering (200 words):

A clear description of the case study including, but not limited to, location, pictures, historical background, purpose of the building, start and completion dates, etc. The sustainability assessment tool used, and the rate achieved in the selected case study. 2- Considering that this project is aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the construction industry towards the net zero emission target by 2050, discuss the different materials, methods and technologies implemented for the construction of the selected case study to achieve the sustainability rate (900 words).

3- Discuss how policies, legislation and initiatives have impacted the design and construction of the selected case study in terms of achieving the sustainability rate (400 words).

4- Discuss the impact of the adopted sustainable solutions in the selected case study on social, economic, and environmental factors (400 words).

5- Summarise the key benefits and challenges of adopting sustainable construction methods in the selected case study (200 words).   

 

3-    Conclusion (200 words).

Highlight the report structure and provide a short description of the key findings in the report. You don’t need to include any new information in the conclusion.

 

 

 

    4- Reference list. You need to apply Harvard style of reference.

1-    Note 1: Please note that to meet the learning outcomes and pass this assessment, the case study you submit must follow the requirement discussed above.

2-    Note 2: Submission without appropriate in-text citation and referencing will be considered a breach of academic integrity and may result in an automation failure for the module, regardless of how well other learning outcomes have been met.

3-    Note 3: During the preparation of your report, you will need to pay particular attention to the following:

4-    Use a clear structure (using headings and subheadings) as explained above.

5-    Use clear, concise, and simple language.

6-    Use in-text citations and a reference list following the Harvard style.

7-    When using tables and figures, you must include captions and numbers and you must explain to the reader what the image or table is trying to show.

Please be aware that the accepted format for the report are Word and PDF. You cannot achieve a pass grade if you submitted the wrong format for your submissions.

Communication skills are important, so proofread your work carefully before you submit it. The standard of your writing will affect your mark.
