CHS320 Unit 6 Assignment: Creative Learning Centers
Directions
Learning is deepened when literacy and the arts intersect. In early childhood settings, arts-rich environments support children’s language, vocabulary, symbolic understanding, creativity, and sense of agency. In this assignment, you will design three developmentally appropriate literacy–art centers that demonstrate intentional teaching, creativity, alignment to early learning standards, and responsiveness to diverse needs.
You will create three distinct centers, each blending literacy with an art form—visual arts, music, movement, dramatic play, storytelling arts, or multimedia arts. Each center should target a different literacy skill area (e.g., vocabulary, emergent writing, phonological awareness, comprehension, sequencing, storytelling).
For each center, include:
• Center title and materials listÂ
• One–two measurable literacy objectivesÂ
• NAEYC standards addressedÂ
• One early learning standard (CT ELDS or equivalent)Â
• Description of the center activityÂ
• Teacher facilitation strategiesÂ
• Desired product or experienceÂ
• Assessment methodÂ
• Family connectionÂ
Formatting:
• Minimum of three pages (one per center)Â
• APA references if sources are usedÂ
• Clear, professional writingÂ
