In Chapter 1 of our textbook, Lebow and Snyder (2023) begin by discussing couple therapy in the 21st century. Of all the main topics in this chapter, focus on pp. 6 and 7 (“A Convergence of Methods”) for this Discussion Activity.
Discuss the notions that therapy is “both pluralistic and integrative.” What ramifications might this have for you as you approach the task of counseling couples? Think about society today. Search and cite at least two or three credible news outlets for insights into societal norms, mores, and trends as they pertain to couples and marriage in the United States. News stories and opinion editorials are allowed. Then, consider the task of couple therapy again.
Be sure to provide appropriate citations and references, especially so others can visit your sources.
Discussion Assignment Instructions
The student will complete 6 Discussion Activities in this course. The student will post one thread of at least 500 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned module. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 2 scholarly references (with accompanying citations) in current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last 12 years. Acceptable sources include our textbooks, scholarly articles, and the Bible.
