Forensic psychologists make preliminary presentations seeking critical input to integrate into a comprehensive report for attorneys, judges, or correctional system representatives. In Week 1, you reviewed a case in which a defendant had been charged with a crime. In the weeks that followed, you determined the defendant’s competency to stand trial, selected jurors for the defendant’s trial, examined the characteristics of the defendant’s mental disorder, and described the role of a forensic psychologist and other professionals in the treatment of this individual in a correctional setting.
For this Discussion, you create and present your findings. You also critique colleagues’ presentations.

Background and diagnosis of the defendant in your assigned case Determination of the defendant’s competency to stand trial. Justify your determination. Selection of two potential jurors for the defendant’s trial. Justify your selections. Presentation of diagnostic criteria for the defendant’s mental disorder Description of possible treatment plan, based on mental disorder, for the convicted individual. Description of roles of those involved with implementing the treatment plan within the correctional setting.

State your opinion on whether the defendant was competent to stand trial or not. Explain why you agree or disagree with your colleague’s determination. State your opinion on whether the jurors selected would be appropriate for the selected case. Describe other characteristics you would seek in potential jurors. Explain how characteristics you describe would benefit the defense or the prosecution. State your opinion as to how the defendant’s mental disorder may affect the outcome of the trial. Describe symptoms that may have affected the defendant’s behavior at the time of the crime. State your opinion regarding the possible treatment plan for this individual’s mental disorder. Describe any differences in terms of the roles and interactions of those involved with the implementation of this treatment plan within the correctional setting.
