VOMP3011 P&ID-1 Bioreactor Assignment: Sketch 14 Process and Utility Connections and Performance Requirements (TU Dublin)
| Module | VOMP3011 From URS to PQ – A Practical Validation Strategy |
| Institution | TU Dublin (online delivery with GetReskilled) |
| Task | P&ID-1 Bioreactor, Rev 006 |
| Parts | Step 1-1 P&ID sketch; Step 1-2 performance requirements |
VOMP3011 students in Irish biopharma start their validation project with this bioreactor P&ID. The drawing must show the vessel, jacket, agitator and outlet pump plus fourteen named lines covering aeration, venting, CIP, SIP, media, inoculum, antifoam, acid and base dosing and jacket thermal fluid, followed by a short list of the bioreactor’s main performance requirements.
P&ID-1: Bioreactor
Step 1-1: Sketch the bioreactor P&ID
Sketch a basic P&ID for a bioreactor with the following main equipment components (your sketch can be hand-drawn or done using a basic software drawing package):
- Bioreactor vessel, with heating and cooling jacket
- Bioreactor agitator
- Bioreactor bottom outlet pump
Include the following process and utility connections on your P&ID:
- Aeration supply to the bioreactor
- Aeration vent/exhaust from the bioreactor with pressure control
- CIP manifold supply to the bioreactor
- Inoculum supply to the bioreactor
- Media supply to the bioreactor
- Clean steam supply to the bioreactor for SIP
- Contaminated condensate (SIP) return
- Process water supply and return distribution to and from the bioreactor
- Over-pressurisation vent line to a catch tank via a rupture disc
- Antifoam addition
- Acid addition to the bioreactor for pH control
- Base addition to the bioreactor for pH control
- Bioreactor bottom outlet via pump to the harvest process manifold
- Thermal-exchange fluid supply and return to and from the bioreactor’s heating and cooling jacket (from a temperature control skid)
Step 1-2: Performance requirements
List the primary performance requirements associated with a bioreactor. Write a sentence or two to expand on each of your performance requirements.
