Interviewing is a surprisingly complex, dynamic, and subtle process which requires great skill to be done successfully. When conducting interviews in psycholegal settings, you must take many factors into account. Some of these relate to the structure, setting, and duration of the interview, others concern the kinds of questions and the way they are asked during the interviewing process, and many factors that must be considered relate specifically to the interviewee, such as variables related to their personality, health, and level of vulnerability at the time of the interview. To conduct interviews fairly and ethically, you must keep all of these factors and variables in mind, and you need to be aware of and avoid problematic approaches, such as interviewer bias or suggestive or coercive interviewing techniques, that can place interviewees at a disadvantage.
